The Monkton Museum and Historical Society first incorporated in 1976, the year of the nation’s bicentennial. The Monkton Museum and Historical Society (MM&HS) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Vermont.
Mission Statement: Monkton Museum & Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and displaying items relevant to Monkton’s heritage. We seek to educate and entertain residents, and the interested public, providing insight to Monkton’s past and present for future generations.
The MM&HS has three main purposes. The first is to collect and preserve historical artifacts pertaining to the town of Monkton. Second, to serve as a resource of reliable information for those interested in the history of the town of Monkton. The third purpose is to organize history-centered educational opportunities for the community at large and area students and residents of all ages. To that end, we partner with the Vermont Humanities Council, other area historical societies, local schools, the East Monkton Church Association and the Russell Memorial Library.
Long-range goals of the MM&HS include locating a site for the storage and display of the Society’s growing collection and restoration of the Monkton Borough’s circa 1800’s one-room schoolhouse.
